Stimuli coming to our sensory organs, e.g. ears and eyes, are combined in the brain, forming bi/multimodal percepts. Assuming the stimuli are congruent, i.e. represent the same object or the same event this sensory integration yields important advantages. Time to identification of an object/event is shorter. The identification of an object/event is more robust against corrupted stimuli. In the seminar I will show how sensory integration can be modeled with artificial neural networks and how the model exhibits these advantages.
